Learning to See

Maroon Bells — Photograph made during a 2010 Anderson Ranch workshop

Compositions in the Mountain Landscape

June 17 – 21, 2013

At Anderson Ranch Arts Center Workshop

Base cost is $1,145.  Details and registration HERE

After getting comfortable with your cameras, lenses, tripods, i.e. gear, it’s time to turn attention to the whole point of photography, the photograph.  What makes for a pleasing photograph?  What stops us as we walk past a picture on a wall?  What makes us stop and pull out the camera?  We’ve seen something that catches our eye.  Is it color?  Light?  Repetitive shapes?  Symmetry or asymmetry? A feeling?  It’s that “something” that we’ll be examining at this workshop in the majestic surroundings of the Aspen-Snowmass region of the Colorado Rockies.

In this workshop you’ll discover what makes for a pleasing landscape and nature photograph?  Like most everything else “seeing” can be learned and practiced. Of course everyone has their own “eye.” A workshop such as this will help you identify and hone your own vision with some foundational composition ideas and increased awareness of light, it’s amount, direction and quality.

During our 5 days we’ll have plenty of early morning and late evening shooting sessions in spectacular locations.  We’ll also have equally important lab periods for downloading and adjusting images as well as one-on-one and group critiques.

Come on up to Anderson Ranch and raise the level of your photography a notch or two.
